The Oera Linda Forum

Hello, I'm new here. I'm reading through the Oera Linda Book and am interested in writing the name of the Creator, Wr-alda, in terms of Anglo-Frisian Runes. To do this properly (I believe), I need to know the proper pronunciation of Wr-alda. Can anyone help me out here? I'm finding the Oera Linda Book fascinating because of its emphasis on freedom and its emphasis on help from the community in maintaining that freedom. Thanks in advance for any help given.

I think that should be Ur-alda, as WR is short for OVER, which can also be shortened as OER (compare German: Ur-alte).
Uralda easily becomes Wralda (with w as in world or the Frisian wrâld) when said quickly.

Runes are a foreign invention. They have nothing to do with Fryas.

(Addendum) It might be of some small interest to note that the six-spoked sun wheel representing Wr-alda is a form of the rune Hagal enclosed in a circle.

Richthofen Oldfrisian dictionary (1840) has spelling varieties for wrald (besides wrauld and warld): rauld and ruald.

These are remarkably similar to Ruldaiu, an alternative spelling of Ruda, “a deity that was of paramount importance in the Arab pantheon of gods worshipped by the North Arabian tribes of pre-Islamic Arabia”. The 5th century BCE Greek historian Herodotus translated this name as Orotalt and equated him to Dionysus.

The name Ruda is strikingly similar to the Slavic supreme god Rod, that is associated to the six-spoke wheel.

It would be advantageous to pen a wiki article of names corresponding to Wralda. There was a previous thread that discussed the Indian god Rudra being a cognate of Wralda.

Indeed this deserves a wiki article and Rudra should be on that list as well.

I would say that Wr-alda was what the Frisians called Ishvara. Rudra might also have been called Ishvara as was Krishna in the Gita.

I didn't mean to say that any of these gods or godheads were equivalent, only that the names may be related (one derived from the other, directly or indirectly).

To get a nice view of who and what Ishvara is, you might take a look at the Wikipedia article on Ishvara, especially the subsections on Yoga and Advaita Vedanta--these are what I have my background in. If you have the time and inclination, you might compare what you read in those subsections to what you find regarding Wr-Alda in the Oera Linda Book and tell me what you think. I would like to know what you think, if you would be so kind to let me know.
