Greetings from Krekaland

Post by Manifestopheles »

Hello everyone! My name is Alexander. I'm half-Dutch, half-Greek, born in Germany. I currently live in Athens but I'm fluent in all three languages. I would be interested to make a new Greek translation of the Oera Linda book. There's one already, but it's based on the Sandbach version. I have some experience with translation (mostly poetry), so I think I could definitely be of use.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Cheers,

Alexander

Hello Alexander, a warm welcome to you.
I would be ineterested in helping you where desired. Do you also have knowledge of Old Greek?
I think many (Old) Greek (and Latin) words can be explained through the Fryas language.
A most recent thought I have in this regard is that 'ante' is derived from the very common AN THA, often written as one word and further shortened into ANDA and ANNA.
If you start with some texts you feel most drawn to and see where you'd like to be advised, we can find an optimal way to work and we can both learn from te coöperation.

I have some familiarity with ancient Greek, yes. I've always been the guy (like all Greeks) who went around explaining foreign words via their Greek roots. Never thought I'd be doing the same thing the other way around

"Ante" or "aïnte" is supposed to derive from Turkish "hajde" which just means "go". They also use this exclamation in Albania and other Balkan countries (I've been doing some cursory studies of Albanian, too... also a very old language, but don't tell any Greeks I said that  ). I'm not aware of what AN THA or ANDA means, but I wouldn't be surprised if similar exclamations exist in other languages, as well.

I will let you know once I get started. I'll have to look into the current Greek translation, too (haven't ordered it yet). There are some things at first glance that I'm not very happy about, especially the use of Latin writing for some words and names that may be harder to translate.

Ah haha that explains a lot. That would make sense, yeah.
